Episode 80. Audio Theater Entertains Young & Old

Welcome to Episode 80 of the Adventures with Grammy Podcast. I am your host, Carolyn Berry.

Sarah Beth Goncarova is today’s guest. She is an American writer, composer and visual artist known for poetry, children’s adventure novels, and writing for film and television.

Her company, CLAY GROUSE KIDS, is a groundbreaking indie press and animation studio that specializes in creating books, read-aloud videos, and audiobooks that inspire creativity and curiosity.

Its mission is to help all children, including emerging and reluctant readers, become better readers by creating books that kids want to read, see, and hear over and over again!

Her webtoon series is “Adventures with Abba, and her children’s chapter books are “The Secret Code of the Heartbeat Drum” and “The Curious Case of the Creepy Cave.” Her children’s picture book, “Super Sleuth,” will be available for preorder next month. Her book “Harnessing Light” won the 2020 N.N. Light Award for Poetry. Sarah tells her books through her website and offers signed copies.

As a visual artist, Sarah has been the grant recipient of the Puffin Foundation and Barbara Deming Memorial Fund. Her visual work can be found in the digital archines worldwide, including at Danube University in Austria, the Brooklyn Museum, and Rutgers University Special Collections. She has been a practicing visual artist for more 20 years.

She graciously shared with us the audio version of her book: The Curious Case of the Creepy Cave, which we will broadcast for you today. Gather your grandchildren around. You are in for a delightful treat!

Before I introduce you to Sarah, I invite you to visit my website, adventureswithgrammypodcast.com, and sign up for my newsletter. Thank you in advance.

You need not take notes; you can find each link we mention in the podcast in the show notes!

Welcome to the Adventures with Grammy Podcast. I am your host, Carolyn Berry.

My guest for Episode 73 is Greg Payne, the host of the Cool-Grandpa podcast. At 48, Greg learned he soon would become a grandfather. He felt a bit panicky. He didn’t know a thing about being a grandfather, so he asked questions and embarked on a journey to build a community for grandfathers. I began our conversation by asking him about his podcast.

Episode 50. My Country Cousins: a chapter book series for ages 6-10

Welcome to the Adventures with Grammy podcast. I’m your host, Carolyn Berry. Today my guests are Heather and Quinn, the mother and daughter writing team who uses the pen name Heather N. Quinn. They live in Canada, the setting for their newly released book series, My Country Cousins.
The first book in the series is Journey to Juniper Junction
The second book in the series, Adventures at Almosta Farm, will be available next month.

Heather was born in Scotland but grew up on a hobby farm in Ontario. In 1990, Heather, her husband, and their daughter Quinn moved to a village in England near the city of Chester, the hometown of their main character, Gemma Merriman.
The family returned to Canada when Quinn was ten years old and thoroughly English, which made adjusting to life in Canada a wee bit trying. However, Quinn says, that personal experience makes it easy for her to identify with Gemma’s feelings.
Join Heather, Quinn and me as we discuss Gemma’s quest for adventure and independence.
Before we jump into the interview, I want to share with you information about the fun activity book I have created.
It’s called My Family Tree. It’s a journal. It’s a photo album. It’s a memory keeper. It’s an introduction to the art and science of family history. It does not require a genealogy subscription to use.
Unlike other journals, this journal is a PDF download designed to fit into a three-ring binder, and it provides lots of opportunities to share with your grandchildren in person or online.
I compiled this journal because my older grandchildren have begun to ask me questions about their late grandfather. This journal is their Christmas present. In it I have included pictures of him from the time he was a baby. I have written lots of stories about him, too.
You can learn more about My Family Tree by visiting my website, https://adventureswithgrammy.com.

Episode 32. Geocaching: A modern day treasure hunt

Travel approximately 5 miles due east from where I live and you will discover the Chesapeake Bay with its many inlets and tributaries – just the sort of waterway pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries navigated with the intent of discovering (pilfering) and burying treasures.

Fast forward to today. Those of us who live near the Bay no longer fear pirates, but we still navigate the area discovering and burying treasures legally. We’re playing a game today’s guest describes as “hunting for Tupperware in the woods.” It’s geocaching.

Amie Tilk, the host of Geocache Adventures, will give us insight as to the game’s origins, it’s worldwide popularity, and why it’s a good activity for grandparents and grandchildren.

Welcome, Amie. Please tell us a bit about you and why you enjoy geocaching.

Tips

Download the geocaching app; create an account (it’s free)
Always bring a pencil or pen with you
If you want “SWAG,” bring SWAG to swap!
