Listen to this single dad talk about his determination to build good relationships with his two sons. His journey as a single parent provides a wellspring of experience, advice, and know-how.
Using his own deeply personal notes on the process of raising his children, recorded as their lives unfolded, he determined that love and respect would be the simple base upon which he would build relationships.
This guide for parents showcases the understanding of love, respect, patience, energy, care, perspective, service, and trust needed to build strong and deeply loving parent-child relationships. It is a life-altering lens through which to see, understand, and love the relationships you have been blessed to receive.
This episode is an edited rebroadcast from Christmas 2020. It is filled with memories of Christmases long ago. What are your Christmas memories? Which carol or song is your favorite? Do you have a traditional Christmas feast, or do you go out? Please share your memories with me for the Christmas 2022 episode.
I mentioned the legacy journals I have compiled. They will jumpstart your memoir writing … quick and easy to follow. The entire purpose of the podcast and my writing is to help grandparents deepen their relationships with their grandchildren. Writing in legacy journals and researching your family trees is an important bonding activity that can be done in person and online. Help your grandchildren find their branches on their family trees.

Welcome to the Adventures with Grammy podcast. I’m your host, Carolyn Berry. Today my guests are Heather and Quinn, the mother and daughter writing team who uses the pen name Heather N. Quinn. They live in Canada, the setting for their newly released book series, My Country Cousins.
The first book in the series is Journey to Juniper Junction
The second book in the series, Adventures at Almosta Farm, will be available next month.
Heather was born in Scotland but grew up on a hobby farm in Ontario. In 1990, Heather, her husband, and their daughter Quinn moved to a village in England near the city of Chester, the hometown of their main character, Gemma Merriman.
The family returned to Canada when Quinn was ten years old and thoroughly English, which made adjusting to life in Canada a wee bit trying. However, Quinn says, that personal experience makes it easy for her to identify with Gemma’s feelings.
Join Heather, Quinn and me as we discuss Gemma’s quest for adventure and independence.
Before we jump into the interview, I want to share with you information about the fun activity book I have created.
It’s called My Family Tree. It’s a journal. It’s a photo album. It’s a memory keeper. It’s an introduction to the art and science of family history. It does not require a genealogy subscription to use.
Unlike other journals, this journal is a PDF download designed to fit into a three-ring binder, and it provides lots of opportunities to share with your grandchildren in person or online.
I compiled this journal because my older grandchildren have begun to ask me questions about their late grandfather. This journal is their Christmas present. In it I have included pictures of him from the time he was a baby. I have written lots of stories about him, too.
You can learn more about My Family Tree by visiting my website, https://adventureswithgrammy.com.

Sharlene and her husband of 44 years, Mark, were blessed with five sons and 13 grandchildren. They know the joys of parenting and grandparenting and the gut-wrenching emotions of losing their fourth son to a brain disorder.
She wrote the book, Good Music Brighter Children that has been translated into five languages. She taught college for 10 years and founded the Palos Verdes Regional Symphony Orchestra in Southern California that is still going strong.
