He also is the author of a business book, The Secrets of Retailing…How to Beat Walmart. He wrote the book to help entrepreneurs and small businesses compete against the big guys. He has written more than 100 articles for the Huffington Post about small businesses, education, the homeless and nonprofit organizations.

Markita Staples-Green is the creator of Curly Crew Books – picture books that feature kids of color with curly hair, braids, and colorful beads.

The mother of two young daughters, Markita is passionate about helping babies and young children identify with diverse characters and discover the joy of reading at a young age.

Before embarking on her writing and publishing career, Markita worked in procurement, supply chain management, and marketing for several large corporations, including Ford Motor Company, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, United Airlines, and Adobe. She holds a master’s degree in business administration from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.

Episode 32. Geocaching: A modern day treasure hunt

Travel approximately 5 miles due east from where I live and you will discover the Chesapeake Bay with its many inlets and tributaries – just the sort of waterway pirates in the 17th and 18th centuries navigated with the intent of discovering (pilfering) and burying treasures.

Fast forward to today. Those of us who live near the Bay no longer fear pirates, but we still navigate the area discovering and burying treasures legally. We’re playing a game today’s guest describes as “hunting for Tupperware in the woods.” It’s geocaching.

Amie Tilk, the host of Geocache Adventures, will give us insight as to the game’s origins, it’s worldwide popularity, and why it’s a good activity for grandparents and grandchildren.

Today’s guest is Donne Davis. Ever since she became a grandma she’s been on a mission to connect with other grandmas and explore what it means to be a modern grandma. “We’re in a new era of grandmotherhood,” she says. “We have more time, technology, and talent. My mission is to inspire grandmas to tap into all these resources so we’ll keep growing along with our grandchildren and children and stay connected with them.”

She founded the GaGa Sisterhood 18 years ago as a social network for enthusiastic, creative, caring women who indulge in the joy of being grandmothers. Members meet during Zoom meetings and learn from guest speakers and stay connected through blog posts, social media and email newsletters.
